How Much Yerba Mate Should Beginners Use?
ALLUBI Editorial TeamBegin with the brewing method. A small filtered mug uses much less dry yerba than a traditional cup, so “one serving” is not a universal measurement.
For a filtered mug
Try 1–2 teaspoons in 8 fl oz (240 mL) of water and steep for around 3–5 minutes. This is a light starting recipe for taste. Spoon sizes and leaf blends vary, and it is not a measured caffeine dose.
For a traditional cup
Start around halfway full, leaving an open side for water. The amount depends on the cup size, and repeated refills make it a session rather than a single mug. If that feels too intense, begin with a filtered brew instead.
Adjust gradually
- Change the leaf amount or steeping time one at a time.
- Try it plain before adding sweetener.
- Consider coffee, tea, and other caffeine you already consume.
- Do not assume a weaker taste means caffeine-free.
Which bag should I choose?
The 250g bag suits a first trial. The 500g bag suits regular brewing. We do not promise a number of servings because methods differ.
